sven ski clinic
Sven Ski Clinic was set up to ensure that you get the best in resort advice for your injury. This is then followed-up by optimised care back in the UK. I have been skiing for over 30 years and during this time seen and treated all types of musculoskeletal injury. Each season I regularly received calls from resorts and treated injuries back in the UK. I saw that care could have been better from the outset. There is often a frustrating period in the resort with pain and swelling, waiting for a flight home. Once you land the next stage is the struggle to get follow-up care. This all changes once the Ski Clinic gets involved.YOUR TRAUMA & ORTHOPAEDIC SPECIALIST
Sven Putnis is a fellowship trained UK Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon. He qualified in 2002 and started his trauma training in 2006. He specialises in the management of acute musculoskeletal injuries, bone fractures and ligament knee reconstructions. Alongside specialist physiotherapists you will be guided back to full function.
If you need surgery you will get advice, and be offered different management options on your return to the UK.
Sven Ski Clinic has access to the full network of private and NHS clinics throughout the UK.
BENEFITS OF SVEN SKI CLINIC
In the days that follow a trip ending injury you don’t want to be stuck in your chalet not knowing your recovery plan or suffering from a lack of appropriate management.
VIDEO CONSULTATION
All musculoskeletal injuries benefit from optimised management from the very start. The video consultation will be able to ensure that your treatment from the local medical centre has been appropriate. There will be early rehabilitation instructions to follow which will minimise the impact of the trauma.
MOBILISATION AND TRAVEL
You will want to know what you can and can’t do whilst still in the resort. There may be times when a return to the slopes is possible. Travel days are long and painful and there may be a risk of blood-clot formation in deep veins. Medications may be required to minimise pain, and blood clot formation (thrombosis)
OPTIMISED UK MANAGEMENT
You will want an early review when you return to the UK. This can be at your local hospital or clinic and arranged directly following your video consultation. If you want to be seen in the NHS, waiting to see your GP can take time and your subsequent follow-up in the specialist clinic delayed. A detailed letter summarising your injury and management is sent immediately to you and your GP with recommended actions. These can be set in motion before you arrive back in the UK.
PRIVATE IMAGING AND FOLLOW-UP
You can continue to be seen privately. The benefit is that any required specialist imaging, such as an MRI, can be booked for you early. This can often happen directly after your return, ensuring a rapid diagnosis. The faster a diagnosis is made, the faster that the correct management can be provided for you.
PLANNING AHEAD
A timeline on return-to-work can be given to allow you to give them an update and make a realistic plan. This can reduce stress. A bespoke programme for return-to all activities and ultimately back to the slopes needs to begin from the first day of your injury.
